The inaugural meeting of ACTA’s new Teacher Education Consultancy Group took place on 15 April 2025. Co-convenors, ACTA President, Chris Davison and ACTA Vice President, Ronan Kelly, welcomed members from universities across Australia.
The meeting began with a presentation by Carly Steel (with Julian Chen, Kim Andreassen, Toni Dobinson, Stephanie Dryden, Curtin University; Leonardo Veliz, David Partridge, Michael Michell, Margaret Turnbull, Marisa Schiavi and Belinda Stewart) on Fading Footprints: Tracing EAL/D Courses at Australian universities. Carly presented initial findings from the researchers’ audit of Initial Teacher Education courses in Early Childhood Education, and primary and secondary undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. This research was ACTA-funded, through the 2024 ACTA Research Grant. We look forward to hearing more about their research and findings in coming months.
Consultancy Group members then discussed ways that ACTA might advocate for TESOL in the Teacher Education space, moving forward. If you would like to be invited to become a member of this group and join in these discussions, please contact Susanne.
