ACTA has been advocating strongly to the Department of Home Affairs, asking them to consult teachers about on-the-ground issues with implementing the curriculum in a VET context, the TAFE context and in an ASQA audit context.
The Department of Home Affairs has sent out a questionnaire to all AMEP providers, specifically asking for teachers’ feedback on the EAL Framework. The EAL Curriculum owners are about to undertake a mid-term review in preparation for seeking re-accreditation of this curriculum. It is vital that they gain accurate input from Home Affairs on behalf of AMEP teachers – hence this questionnaire.
AMEP teachers are significant users of this curriculum, so it’s essential that as many AMEP teachers as possible complete this questionnaire.
- If you are an AMEP teacher, please take the time to let Home Affairs know what is working well, and also any issues and potential improvements that would make the curriculum work better in your context.
- If you are teaching using the EAL Framework but are not an AMEP teacher and wish to provide feedback on it, you may wish to ask your management how you can contribute to the Curriculum owner’s review.
Home Affairs has stated clearly that the AMEP will continue to use the EAL curriculum as a condition of providers’ contracts in 2029. This is really the best and probably only opportunity you have to contribute useful and constructive feedback on what you want from this curriculum.
