TESOL in Context Call for Expressions of Interest: Editors 2026-2028

The Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA) invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the role of Associate Editor for TESOL in Context for the term 2026-2028.
Applications from teams (2-3 people as a team) for the honorary Editorial position are warmly welcomed.

About the Journal

ACTA is the national coordinating body representing teachers of English to speakers of other languages in Australia. Its official peer-reviewed journal, TESOL in Context, publishes two general issues and one special edition each year and provides a forum for sharing professional practice, research, and policy perspectives in TESOL and EAL/D both in Australia and internationally.
With a broad and diverse readership, TESOL in Context reaches educators, practitioners, and researchers working in all sectors of education, including:

  • Universities, schools, and early childhood education
  • Adult migrant English, vocational education and training (VET), and ELICOS sectors
  • TESOL teacher education, professional development, and research contexts.

The journal is dedicated to fostering informed dialogue between theory, research, and classroom practice, supporting both scholarly and practitioner engagement.

Editorial Governance and Role Context
The TESOL in Context editorial structure operates under the governance of the ACTA Publications Working Party, chaired by the Editor-in-Chief. The Working Party provides strategic and academic oversight and ensures the journal’s mission aligns with ACTA’s objectives and national professional standards.
The Managing Editor oversees all journal editorial activities, operations, staffing, and publishing as well as Open Journal System (OJS) processes.
Under this framework, the Associate Editors hold primary responsibility for the two general issues published annually.
To ensure sustainable workflow and continuity, TESOL in Context operates with two teams of Associate Editors, each managing one general issue per year on an alternating basis. Special issues are managed separately by guest editors in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor.

About the Role
Associate Editors play a vital part in maintaining the scholarly and professional quality of TESOL in Context. Working collaboratively with the Managing Editor, Associate Editors are responsible for:

  • Conducting editorial reviews and coordinating the peer review process for their assigned general issue within the required timeframe.
•Selecting and liaising with reviewers, monitoring progress, and ensuring reviews are rigorous, fair, and timely.
•Making editorial recommendations to the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief.
•Providing authors with clear editorial feedback throughout the review and revision process.
•Contributing to the planning and development of issue themes, including potential special sections.
•Upholding ethical publishing standards and ensuring compliance with ACTA’s editorial policies.
•Promoting the journal within professional networks and TESOL communities.

Associate Editors are encouraged to attend ACTA Council meetings, AGMs, and the ACTA International Conferences where possible.
